| Remembering the World's Most Critically Rare Breeds |
|
Cleveland Bay: Even one of the world's most important foundation horse breeds, England's majestic Cleveland Bay, is now critically rare, with numbers of under 1,100 world-wide as of August 2010.
Even some of the much younger American heritage breeds face even greater threats of extinction: American Cream: the American Cream Draft Horse, a treasured part of Iowa's state heritage, and the only draft horse breed developed in the United States, is critically rare, and nearing extinction, with fewer than 100 horses alive in the world as recently as October 2007. Florida Cracker: Only approximately 200 of the beautiful Florida Cracker, a key horse in Florida's state heritage, were registered in the world in October 2007. |
